Community Concerts at Second: Music For All is a program that features some of the best local and visiting musicians playing under one roof, for free at Second Presbyterian Church, 4200 St Paul Street Baltimore MD 21218. This past Sunday, two past Baker Artist Awards Winners performed the piece “Variations for Four Drums and Viola” by Pulitzer Prize and Emmy Award winning composer Michael Colgrass.
Peter Minkler, winner of a 2010 Mary Sawyers Baker Prize, played the viola portion of the piece. Shodekeh, 2010 Baltimore Choice Award winner, used his beat boxing skills to simulate the drums portion of the piece. The overall effect was fantastic and well received by the audience, check out the video for a segment of their performance:
The performance was part of an ongoing Sunday evening concert series by the Music for All program entitled “Chamber Music by Candlelight”. The concert’s typically take place in the church’s beautiful Sanctuary, which is under currently being renovated, so the performances are temporarily being presented in Second Presbyterian’s Smith Hall.
