Throughout the month of September, to coincide with the exhibit at The Baltimore Museum of Art and to celebrate another year with the Baker Artist Awards, we’ve invited several galleries to exhibit shows curated from BakerArtistAwards.org. With the show at the BMA now underway, the satellite exhibits are now approaching and have openings of their own just around the corner.
Operating since 2003, Sub Basement Artist Studios has showcased work from over 180 artists. It is a multi purpose venue that has not only been used for exhibitions, but supported the needs of numerous workshops, fundraising events, weddings, funerals, release parties, and artist studios. From September 23 – October 29, 2011, Sub Basement will be hosting Mothership Connection, another one of this year’s September Baker Exhibitions. The exhibit opens
TOMORROW, September 24th, from 7pm – 9pm
Mothership Connection is a two person exhibition, featuring the work of
Bobby’s work investigates ideas of ancestry, origins, and spirituality, shaped not only by his own hand, but by larger forces such as gravity, chance, and nature. Lauren’s paintings often feature dualing opposite forces that while often violent and chaotic, can also express and maintain beauty. Together, the two artists explore themes of creation and destruction – two intricately linked processes that conjure and return all living things to and from the great unknown.
Lauren will be exhibiting two never-before-seen massive paintings she completed at the Jentel Artist Residency in Wyoming. The exhibit will also feature a collaborative, site-specific piece between Boilini and English. Two performance pieces by Bobby English will be underway throughout the opening reception on Saturday, September 24, 2011.
The exhibit was curated by Sub Basement’s Coordinator, Jennifer Tam, who frequently uses bakerartistawards.org to curate shows. She states: “I’ve found that it’s a good database for local artists who are serious about their work, plus the website is easy to use and provides almost all the images and information I could ask for.”
We can’t wait to see the performances and look forward to Saturday’s opening! Here’s the info:
