About this Project

Currently, I am combining the ideas of religion in art and the explanations found in science to create a body of work that explores the truth about the transience of life. Throughout art history religion has always been the primary subject of the arts, but in contemporary society we have all but lost our religious ideals. Today’s religious morals have a more limited role compared to the religious figures painted so long ago. The solitary figures in my paintings, which I call Contemplation Portraits, allude to contemporary concepts of spirituality, which refer to common morals or religious concepts practiced in the past. The figures evoke contemplation, and the possibility of a spiritual force at work, but still maintain an earthliness that previous icons did not.

About this Project

As a young artist there are certain truths about the world that I am still discovering. My art is a constant exploration of what I don’t know. Currently, I am combining the ideas of religion in art and the explanations found in science to create a body of work that explores the truth about creation and progression of life. Science can only explain so much through chemical reactions, evolution etc. but when science cannot make a reasonable explanation is there another spiritual force at work? Humans exist today because of evolution, but what exactly is the catalyst to that process? Is the development of a body from a microscopic organism more than a miraculous coincidence? Do we use religion as a way to explain what we can’t with science? I hope to explore these questions although they are all almost unanswerable.
