Christopher Ruppert began his professional career in the arts in NYC creating sets for MTV and Broadway and moonlighting as a bouncer. In 1995 he returned to Baltimore to work as both a muralist and fine artist specializing in master copies and to study and compete as a professional ballroom coach and competitor. Christopher graduated from The Maryland Institute of Art in 2004, Summa Cum Laude, with a focus on oil painting and metal casting and sculpture. After graduating he turned to portraiture and still life painting with some occasional sculpture work. He continues to gratefully claw his way from commission to commission and to compete professionally in International Standard Ballroom. Most recently, he is awaiting possible appointment to the Baltimore City Fire Department and is pursuing an apprenticeship in tattooing. He fully plans to continue and even intensify his creative life in harmony with a career in civil service and would use the Baker Award to help finish several works (especially "Goliath") and to also support an further exploration of his art outside of commission.
